Berwick Look for Reserve Manager/Coach

Berwick Rangers are inviting applications for a Reserve Team Manager/Coach to look after that team in the SPFL Reserve League for Season 2014/15. This is a voluntary post and application should be in writing with full CV. to the club by letter to Shielfield Park, Tweedmouth, Berwick upon Tweed TD15 2EF or email: . SFA B Licence preferred or moving towards this. The position will involve working with first team squad at times and the Under 21 players in team squad. Please apply by 1st May if interested.

Sunday afternoon sees the eighth International of the Independent Schools fixture between Scotland and England. The Scottish Independent Schools Football Association and the Independent Schools Football Association are delighted to be playing this year’s fixture at the only English ground that plays in the Scottish Leagues and we must place on record our gratitude to everyone at Berwick Rangers FC for permitting us to play this match on Sunday 27th April 2014 at Shielfield Park, Kick off 1.30pm, in particular our thanks go to Dennis McCleary and all his associates for their assistance in the organisation of this game.

Berwick kept their play-off hopes alive with a hard-fought 1-0 win over East Stirlingshire at Shielfield Park. Andy Russell scored the only goal of the game, just a minute before half-time. It was a valuable strike; with Stirling Albion dropping two points at home to Elgin


Borderers Host the Shire

East Stirlingshire visit Shielfield this weekend (19th kick-off 3pm) in SPFL2 and are just behind Berwick in the table. The Borderers know that a win is essential to keep in the hunt for a play off spot with 3 games remaining. Ex Berwick boss John Coughlin is in charge of the visitors but will leave at the end of the season.


The Raymond Hogg Memorial Shield

As fans will recall, Lowick lad the late Raymond Hogg played for the club in the 1950’s, in fact he made 124 league and cup appearances between 1951/52 and 1954/55 seasons before being transferred to Aston Villa and he was in their Cup Final squad at his time at Villa Park although Stan Lynn played in the 1957 Cup Final team at right back against Manchester United which Villa won 2-1. Ray’s widow Janet and Daughter Susan have donated a Shield in his memory to be awarded annually to the Berwick Rangers ‘Young Player of the Season’ most likely to at Under 21, either first X1 or Reserves. This will initially be presented at half time on 3 May at the time the Josser Johnson Clubman of Year Shield is also presented.


Lee Currie Nominated

Berwick captain Lee Currie is one of the four players nominated by fellow professionals for the SPFL Division Two Player of Year awards to be held at Glasgow Hilton on Sunday 27th April, just reward for another good season in the Black and Gold for Lee. The other nominations are Peterhead duo, Rory McAllister and Andy Rodgers plus Kenny Mackay of Annan.

Berwick Rangers 1-2 Whitehill Welfare

Despite holding only a one goal lead, Berwick were in the driving seat at Shielfield at half time against their Lowland League opponents. Kenny O'Brien, who had a busy first half including a booking for tumbling Whitehill winger Wayne Sproule, scored a cracking goal after 14 minutes after jinking past a trio of Whitehill men. However, other chances were missed both before and after this goal and these were to prove costly.
